Volunteer at school

No experience needed. Roles range from an hour a week to helping now and then, so there’s one to suit you.

  • Can your employer pay for your volunteering? Some give a grant for every hour their staff volunteer.

    How to start

    1. Search your intranet for “volunteering grant”, or ask HR
    2. On it, find Jubilee School PTA, charity no. 1179031
    3. Log the hours you volunteer with us
    4. Stuck? Email us and we’ll confirm your hours

  • Volunteer reading Help build children’s reading confidence.

    What you’d do

    • Have a child read out loud to you. Four children in an hour, 10–15 minutes each
    • Hand out a sticker at the end, which the children love
    • Collect each child from class and take them back afterwards

    The details

    How often:
    An hour a week, at the same time each week, in term time
    Where and when:
    At school, on a weekday: 1:30–2:30pm or 2:30–3:30pm
    What you need:
    No experience needed: just a DBS check, organised and paid for by the school

    How to start

    1. Sign up online: it takes two minutes
    2. The school office arranges your DBS check
    3. The reading coordinator matches you with a class at one of your times
    4. You’re emailed your sessions, usually within a couple of weeks of signing up

  • Gardening Join your child in their gardening session.

    What you’d do

    • Help small groups of children grow and taste food with the gardener
    • Join your child's class during their session

    The details

    How often:
    Each class from Year 1 to Year 6 has one session a half term.
    Where and when:
    Your child’s class, or any other that needs a hand (Reception too)
    What you need:
    No gardening experience needed: just a DBS check, organised and paid for by the school

  • Helping in the library Help organise our library.

    What you’d do

    • Shelve returned books and keep the shelves tidy
    • Cover and label new books
    • Help run book swaps
    • Help choose new books with the teachers

    The details

    How often:
    An hour now and then, whenever suits you
    What you need:
    A DBS check, organised and paid for by the school

  • Preloved uniform Keep clothes out of landfill.

    What you’d do

    • Sort and fold donated uniform by size
    • Run the uniform stall at school events
    • Help families find the right sizes

    An hour or so periodically, when preloved events are run
